Government is the highest-paying industry for registered nurses, where they earn an average of almost $30,000 higher than the lowest-paying industry, according to Bureau of Labor Statistics data.
The data was updated April 3 and uses information from 2023.
Here is the average yearly salary of registered nurses in the five industries BLS tracks:
Government — $99,840
Hospitals; state, local and private — $88,430
Ambulatory healthcare services — $81,230
Nursing and residential care facilities — $79,280
Educational services; state, local and private — $71,550
